It’s no secret that the oceans require our help and significant effort to look after it, to survive. Considering humans have been the primary cause of the oceans problems, including chemical and plastic pollution, as we dump our trash into it annually, we surely owe the effort to clean up our oceans to both it, along with all of the species that thrive in it.

It’s crazy to think that a few years ago, ocean cleanups barely existed. Even though scientists could see what was going on beneath the water and how much plastic pollution has increased over the past few decades, there wasn’t much done about the problem at hand. In fact, there wasn’t even that much information made available about the severity of the problem.

With 300 million tons of some form of plastic produced each year, nobody stops and asks where it all goes once consumers are done with it.

Studies have found that over 8 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean and 33% of marine species are currently encountering plastic.

Can you imagine if three times the amount of plastic makes it to the ocean? That would mean that every living species would come into contact or become trapped in plastic in the entire ocean.

Currently, there are also 90% of seabirds that have plastic in their stomach. This has occurred due to there being more plastic produced in the last decade, than the last century. The figures are unreal and scary.

Cleaning Technology to Clean Up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Since we depend on oceans to survive and maintain the earth, they must be respected at all cost.

The Ocean Clean Up is a company that’s taking on the biggest ocean clean-up project the world has ever seen. The company’s plan is to use advanced technology for the clean up of plastic in the ocean. A floating boom system test has been designed to check whether this method will work, which departed from San Francisco’s Bay and has thus far, been successful.

The company’s technology can clean at least half of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch every 5 years, which will slowly but surely, help diminish plastic from the oceans safely.
