When it comes to some of the most dangerous rivers in the world, you’d think that these are labelled as dangerous as they contain some of the worlds most dangerous river-bound animals, or are influenced by something nature-like, but it is, in fact, all due to pollution caused by humans.

It’s hard to believe that humans played such a big role in ruining their freshwater resources all by themselves, yet the people living in areas surrounding these rivers still consume its water or are affected by it health-wise in some way.

Ganges River

Considered to be one of the most sacred rivers in Hinduism, as well as the third biggest river in the world, just because the Ganges River is considered to be one of the most polluted in the world, does not stop people from entering it.

While many seem to think this is completely crazy, Hindus believe that drinking the water from this river could cleanse them from sin and that it is the healthiest water one can drink.

The reason why this is considered crazy is due to the fact that 400 million people in India rely on the river and most use it for cooking, cleaning and daily activities. What makes this river worse is the fact that there are corpses thrown into the river when families cannot afford for a family member to be cremated. Which makes this river the worst of the worst to consume from.

Doce River

Contradicting its name which means ‘sweet water’, the Doce River is located in southeast Brazil and stretches over 853 kilometres. As another mass polluted river in the world, this was not always the case, but due to an accident of two contaminated dams rupturing into the river in 2015, 60 million cubic metres of iron ore sludge was spilt into the river. This accident left 17 people dead, as well as many more injured. All life in the river has been destroyed and those who used it as a source of drinking water has to rely on bottled water for drinking, as well as cooking, cleaning and anything else.

Yellow River

Now, we don’t know about you, but just the name of this river makes it seem much worse to consume from. Its name was given due to its colour which is caused by a yellow sediment referred to as loess. It is known to be very important to the well-being of the Chinese, even though the river has caused millions of people to die due to flooding.

It is also considered to be one of the worst polluted rivers in the world due to 4 billion tons of sewage being dumped into the river which has caused for it to become toxic.
