  • Seven Mile Reef

Located in Sodwana Bay, in Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Seven Mile Reef boasts with fish life, both hard and soft species of coral, and countless plant species. Perhaps one of the most significant features of this reef is its clear water, that allows you to view everything underneath the water, without even having to go underwater. It is internationally recognised as one of the most incredible diving sites on earth. Species you’re likely to encounter are tropical reef fish, Moray eels, pelagic fish, various species of turtles, dolphins, whales and whale sharks.

  • Landers Reef

Also located in Kwa-Zulu Natal, as most of South Africa’s coral reefs, Landers Reef has a wide variety of aquatic life, especially tropical fish. Some of the most popular fish sightings include the Barracuda, Kingfish, King mackerel and the Cape salmon. This reef has a depth of 32m and experienced regular thermoclines, which means that the water tends to be colder than the rest of the surrounding ocean.

  • Playground Reef

Now, you’re probably wondering, a playground of, fish?

Well, yes. If you’re looking for an entertaining sighting, you best visit the Playground, which is situated in Protea Banks in Kwa-Zulu Natal. This reef is well known for its several species of sharks and incredible diving spots, that looks like it’s been carved by an artist.

  • Pinnacles Reef

The Pinnacles coral reef has interesting rock formations, caves and swim-through spots that form the natural habitat of thousands of fish species, Manta rays, turtles and Ragged Tooth Sharks, all located at the lovely Sodwana Bay in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

  • Castle Rocks

As one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town also has a coral reef, which is located in False Bay. This reef is close to Miller’s Point. In comparison to KZN, the water is extremely cold, which is why it only has cold-water corals. Nevertheless, it has incredible species, which includes over 200 species of nudibranchs, which is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. It also has neon yellow sponges, basket stars, sunburst corals, the famous Double Sash Butterflyfish and of course, a couple of sharks.
