It’s no secret that Japan is one of the countries with the highest-ranking whale killings in the world.

Considering that any country refers to the hunting of whales as a “research whaling” program, is appalling. One recent report suggests that the country killed more than 120 whales in one instance. The fact that they killed so many magnificent creatures are, unfortunately, not the worst part of the killing, but rather the fact that these whales were females and that most of them were carrying unborn babies.

Environmental activists were left appalled by their “research program”. It is condemned cruel. Their research program has already been submitted to the management committee of the IWC.

However, Japan stands firmly in their attempt to continue their research program and has stated that there are more than enough whales in the ocean, which allows them the courtesy to continue running tests on these whales. They don’t believe that they are doing anything wrong.

Putting a stop to Japan’s commercial whaling research program

The International Court of Justice had already made a statement in 2014, where they came to terms that the hunt for whales is disguised as what Japan’s government likes to call, “scientific research”. However, it is still commercial whaling, and the number continue to increase.

The International Court of Justice has also accused Japan’s government of not responding to a declaration, which was created by both New Zealand and Australia. This declaration stated the problem of whaling and the importance of the Southern Ocean’s mammals. Whaling is forbidden in the Southern Ocean, which is a law that Japan fails to comply with.

The killing of whales prevails inside a whale sanctuary, which is supposed to be the one place they should remain safe. With 333 Minke whale’s dead and 122 of those bearing babies, it’s extremely unfortunate to think how cruel the Japanese government can be against these gentle giants, in the miserable attempt of “research”.

For all who think that there is a rectified reason to hunt whales, it is essential to review what these specimens mean to the ocean’s wellbeing, as well as the sustainability of ecosystems. They maintain the central human life support system, which are the oceans of the sea.
