Is Dehydration Making Me Sick and Fat?If you have been feeling out of sorts lately and struggling to lose weight, you may be suffering from dehydration. According to studies done recently, most individuals walk around partially dehydrated about 90% of the time without realising it.

Feeling thirsty; dry mouth; constantly yawning? Drink more water. By the time that you feel thirsty you are already partially dehydrated and the thirst and dry mouth is your body telling you that it needs water. While tea, coffee, carbonated drinks or alcohol may taste good, they do not actually quench your thirst because the body wants water.

Have you ever noticed that when you drink a sugary drink it only cools you down for a few minutes? This is because your body has a really good cooling system to keep your core body temperature balanced, it is called sweating, but it needs water to do this.

Dehydration causes the following:

  • Asthma and Allergies: When your body is dehydrated it will restrict your airways to conserve water, resulting in an increase of histamines, which causes allergies and breathing problems.
  • Bladder and Kidney Problems: When the body is dehydrated, the accumulation of acid waste and toxins creates an environment that is conducive to bacteria thriving, and this can result in bladder and kidney infections.
  • Blood Pressure: Your blood is normally around 92% water; dehydration causes the blood to thicken and unable to flow freely, causing elevated blood pressure and a strain on your heart.
  • Constipation: When the body becomes dehydrated it will draw water from various areas in order to keep the major organs working. One of the primary areas it will draw from is the colon, making it difficult for waste to move through, resulting in constipation.
  • Digestive Disorders: Dehydration makes it difficult to properly digest the food you eat, and a shortage of calcium and magnesium can result in your body becoming acidic leading to gastritis, acid reflux and ulcers.
  • Fatigue: Water is the most vital source of energy for your body; when you do not drink sufficient water, the enzyme activity in your body slows down, resulting in fatigue and tiredness.
  • Weight Gain: When the body is dehydrated, the cells are depleted of energy. This generally makes us think we need food and we tend to overeat as a result. Added to this, if we have no energy we will exercise less, which means we get obese rather quickly.

Dehydration cause many other health problems, and yes, it can definitely be making you sick and be the cause of weight gain. Drink water, your body needs it!
