Make your Drinking Water Exciting this SummerI often find myself so busy and wrapped up in whatever project I am currently busy with that I forget to eat or drink anything for hours on end and suddenly realise that I am starving and thirsty.

While nothing much will happen to me from not eating for a few hours, except that I may lose some weight, not hydrating myself for hours on end is far more dangerous and complicated.

With the human body consisting of around 70% water but not being capable of storing water, it is vital that we hydrate our bodies constantly at regular intervals. We are constantly losing water from urination, sweating and various other bodily functions, so it is really important to replace that lost water in order to maintain good health and optimal body and brain function.

If you are anything like me however, drinking water is really not a priority because I do not like the taste or the smell of tap water. That is no reason not to drink water, however. One solution to the problem of “not do good” tap water is to invest in a mains water cooler that will filter and chill the water for you, offering icy cold, great-tasting water 24/7. If you go for a more state-of-the-art model you can even get ambient and hot water options as well.

If you still really don’t like the taste of water, make it exciting so that you will WANT to drink it:

  • Make a Fruit or Herbal Infusion: Add lemon and fresh ginger, watermelon and mint, lemon & basil, or strawberries to your jug of water and place in the fridge overnight so that the subtle taste of the fruit seeps into the water.
  • Flavour your Water: Add a water flavour enhancer that is free of both sugar and artificial sweeteners to your drinking water.
  • Drink Herbal Tea: Herbal tea is healthy and a great alternative to plain water.

Another method of ensuring that you get sufficient water into your body is to eat fruit and vegetables that have a high water content such as watermelon, tomatoes, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, or berries.
